A coworker was stuck in the city I am in for over a year and finally flew home to be with her kids and continued to work remotely. But the work she does in general is not great, mainly due to the behaviour of our boss who is not understanding at all and she got very fed up with it all months before she finally flew home. She has been physically gone for like 2 months now. But has been ignoring the boss and hasn’t completed large tasks to do with the accounts.
It’s getting pretty bad as she has ignored the boss for awhile, she said she is in the hospital at the moment. Which I do think is true. The boss created an environment of mistrust with webs of lies especially with her.
But now the boss is explaining all this to me and has been complaining about it for weeks. I have been here for 5 months. But I’m am at the moment I’m the 3rd longest person in the 6 person company. This is my first ‘proper’ job. He doesn’t know what to do and has told me all the possible scenarios of things to do. - Sending an email to end the contract, - having me send her a message asking how to do/ help with some of her tasks. - us “quietly” changing her email password - me posting a Facebook job post of her position - him waiting to see if she actually has done a key part of her job in the next 48 hrs He doesn’t get technology or how to change passwords or Facebook so half of those things she would know I knew what was happening and have had to help him.
I am not comfortable or ok with being dragged into this situation. And I shouldn’t have right?
He is not a great boss or person really but that’s what a sales person is. Not a good one either.
She should have just quit when she left, as her plan was to not come back. Just the boss doesn’t know. He asked me about it, I don’t know if he thinks I am lying that I don’t know. So she isn’t exactly being fair either. But I am not someone who would be a part of this.
Also when she does leave I need to basically help the boss out to fill that gap before a replacement if any could be found starts. And I am already thinly stretched because 4 staff members have left since I have joined and they have been replaced with 3 people… so in general things are increasingly stressful.
I really wish I could just leave but I can’t until I have another job lined up. As no matter how unnecessarily stressful it is because of the terrible boss, my parents won’t let me leave because it’s “good experience and I get to learn about all aspects of the company. Which I am basically solely responsible for and I am on shit pay too because of the revenue and it being a small business.
