When to send a follow up?

I interviewed yesterday (Wednesday) for a management position with a store’s GM. She and I really hit it off and had an excellent conversation that went well over two hours. She told me she had two other candidates to interview but thought I was perfect for the role. She shared that she would be off today (Thursday) and to expect a call from her by Saturday at the latest. Would emailing her this evening (to thank her for her time and opportunity) so she sees it first thing tomorrow be too soon?

This is my first job back in the corporate world after nearly a decade of self-employed freelance work so I’m not sure how it would be portrayed.
