I went to a local resume workshop as I'm looking for a new job and haven't had much luck so I figured I could use some help spruce up my resume. There are two things that stood out during the workshop that I'm questioning and not sure about and wanted to see if y'all have some insight.
- The person giving the workshop said everyone embellishes on their resume and every hiring manager knows that everyone is embellishing. If you don't embellish and put 100% truthful items, the hiring manager will assume you're embellishing about your 100% truthful items and therefore think you're worse than you are, so you have to embellish.
- You should embellish on all your past roles but know they could reach out to that company so you don't want to be way out there.... except for your current company. The company you're applying to won't be contacting your current company so you can really embellish a lot here. Don't manage anyone? Say you do. Only managed 1, say it's a team of 5. Things like that.
I'm a little hesitant to take any of this "advice" and figured I'd post here are get y'all opinion on this. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
