I am stuck and I don't know what to do.
I am very comfortable in my current full time job that pays be $50k as a desktop support. I have been there for 2 years and I received a 65% raise to get to my current salary (compared to last year). There isn't much to do and it is very flexible and convenient. However, I feel neglected and stuck. I was promised a promotion and training to be a business analyst but I received nothing so far. Management loves me but users are quick to throw me under the bus. I am expected to cover for my team members (all paid higher than me) and my manager when they are off, but when I am off no one covers for me. Work is not demanding but I reached the ceiling. I'm barely learning anything useful that will help me. I self study and tinker with things but I'm not receiving any projects. I get told that I am paid really well and I have probably reached the ceiling of my pay for my experience.
A recruiter reached out to me with a contract position that will give me some benefits, W2, and several paid holidays. The salary is $56k and in a business analyst role. I don't have the technical skills for that role but I do have the softskills for it. I am afraid that it would be too stressful and I would not meet their expectations. They are trying to decide between me and another candidate. If they were to extend the offer, I have 48 hours to accept it so I don't know if I should take it.
Tbh I would love to stay at my current position, since it is "stable". However, with users running wild and shoving me under buses and having my own manager shrug it off. It really stresses me out because I feel like I would get fired. Especially since upper management is shoving one of their family members from a different department over to our team and pressuring my manager to train him into a business analyst. Which is what I was supposed to be trained in.
I am honestly lost and I don't know what to do. Please give me advice.
If I stay, should I try to talk it out with my manager? How should I approach it?
Management appreciates me and a handful of users regularly tell me they appreciate me. Since I am in IT, I don't expect people to appreciate me since I love what I do and it is my job. However, I don't like that I'm stuck, not growing, and being shrugged off. I constantly make my own project and present them to management.
