I finally got a job, but should I negotiate the salary?

So I’ve been searching for a job for a year on and off, and 2 months ago I started looking in earnest and through a mentor I was introduced to an assistant position for a real estate development company. The position sounds like it will give me a lot of different experience and I know I’ll be wearing a few hats along the way which is fine with me as I love responsibility and being busy. I’ve worked in marketing and typical office settings for 5 years, and based on previous job salary I thought 40k+ would be fitting and stated that in the interview. I’m desperately wanting to work and do something in my life so this opportunity sounds great. The problem is they’ve offered me 34k with every 3-6months opportunities for raises, and also health insurance won’t come in for another 6months, so I may have to buy my own temporarily.

I keep seeing I should negotiate and as I haven’t signed anything yet and I have to go in to start on Monday, I wondered if I should at least ask for a little bit more. And if I should ask for more, how do I do that without coming off negatively? I’ve never negotiated my salary in previous jobs, so I don’t know what to even do. I really need to work and want to get out of the house and do something, but I also want to make more money. I also thought it wouldn’t be bad if I took it as is and find a side hustle now that I’ll have steady income. I don’t know, am I being greedy? Or should I ask for more?
