Hi all,
I’ve recently started a new job. Due to covid, i’ve joined remotely and haven’t met most of my colleagues in person. As my ‘induction’, I’ve been provided with a stack of ‘text based learning’- pages and pages of dry AF law and policy to basically revise, totally on my own with no one to discuss it with or even see how it works in practice. I’ve been doing this for 7.5 hours a day for nearly 4 weeks and have completed something like 60 units. I’ve totally hit my capacity with it. No more information will go in as hard as I try. I feel like I can’t even read anymore. I raised it last week with my manager and said I’m really struggling and don’t even know how much I’ve ‘learnt’, but nothing has changed. I don’t know what to do and whether to raise it again. I’m a really hard worker, a fast learner and pretty smart but I feel like this is just way too much for a human brain to handle. I also tend to learn from videos or doing things and have always had some difficulty with masses of text, which I did mention. There seems to be no plan or targets, no one checks in with me; it just feels like ‘sit there, read this, then you can do the job.’ I don’t want to cause an issue by raising it again but I am really struggling. Any advice on how to approach is very much appreciated.
