Employer won't tell me the salary?

Hey! I interviewed on Thursday with a nice firm. They offered me a job at the end of the interview. They said I could "start tomorrow".

Their primary assistant called me after. She asked me what my salary expectations were. I told her I wanted X bucks an hour. She said ok, I'll have to check with the boss. After we talked about other things.

So today, Friday, I started my new job. They haven't told me my salary whatsoever. They did mention I would get paid every 2 weeks.

Should I ask the assistant if she was able to get an answer regarding my salary? why would they hire me without deciding on a salary?

I won't take the job if the salary is too low...
