A year and a half ago I got my first job out of college. I have an engineering degree and an engineering in training license. I was replacing an engineer who was working there.
Work was extremely hard to find out of college so I grabbed the opportunity when I was offered the job. They said that since I was brand new I would be hired kinda like an intern being paid 20 dollars an hour. They said they will see if I’m a good fit for a couple months before advancing me.
A year and a half later, I’ve gone through several managers and have gotten great performance reviews and I’ve still not been advanced. I’ve taken way more job responsibilities and every time I bring up being advanced my boss has a new excuse.
They constantly tell me how I’m the future of the company and give me more and more to do.
I found out today that the engineer I replaced was being paid 70k a year compared to my 42,000. I’ve way past doing what she did at the company.
I’ve been searching for new jobs and can’t find anything so I can’t leave. Right now work at the company is slowing down so my boss said as soon as work picks up again he’ll bring up my promotion to his boss.
It’s just so depressing seeing new people get hired every month at different groups with less experience getting starting pay way higher than me.
