How do you move for a job?

I'm a little confused on how people relocate for their jobs. My field usually does not have the funding to assist in relocating so I know some part of that involves having a small savings in place before you do move.

My confusion more lies with the fact that I am currently signed onto a 12 month lease, and once my lease ends, I do have the option to switch to month to month but the rent would go up $200-300 (which would only matter if I didn't find a job before my lease ended).

If I find a job in a new state, do I simply break my lease as is, pay the termination fees, and haul myself over to my new job? Is that how people usually do it?

Is there a standard amount of time new employers give you to get over to your new state? If I were to break my lease, and a new employer were to give me two weeks to move, that would probably give me 1-1.5 weeks to sell everything and then I would use the last few days to find an AirBnB locally in my new state to stay until I find somewhere more permanent to live. Is that how it is? It seems so rushed and frantic.

I have nothing tying me to my state, nothing that would make a move harder, no family, no children, no partner, no job, and I'm renting my place, I don't own real estate. I don't even care if I keep my furniture or not, I bought it all fairly cheap off of craigslist when I moved in. I can't imagine how much all of that would make it harder to relocate. The only thing I'd ideally want to keep with me is my car, so driving to wherever that new job may be, instead of just flying out at the last minute.

If I'm way off base with any of this, how does a person usually relocate for a new job (especially if they literally are open to living anywhere in the US)?
