Very important exams coming up but we're short-staffed right now so my boss is scheduling me more.. what do I do?
I'm a high school student in my final year and I have some very important exams coming up in the month of May. My most difficult ones are the week of May 3rd - May 7th, which starts the following Monday. These exams determine whether or not I get a diploma for a 2-year program that I'm in (IB), so they mean a lot to me and I need all the time I can get to study.
I work at a pizza chain and unfortunately, we just had around 5 employees quit within a couple of days of each other. We're extremely short-staffed right now, so my boss has been scheduling me more and he himself has been working double shifts back-to-back.
This coming week is my last full week before exams start so it's urgent for me to be studying and practicing as much as I can. I am normally scheduled 2 days a week, but my boss wants me to come in 4 days next week. I know 4 days isn't a lot, but I'm also going to school each day and need to focus on exams. I feel that it would really disrupt my studying schedule if I have to come in this week.
It doesn't seem like it's gonna be possible for my boss to change the schedule since we're so short-staffed. He hired several new people but they might not all be trained in time.
I don't know what to do. My boss has been very kind to me during my 8 months working here, and he's always accommodated any days off that I've needed for school. These past few weeks have been stressful for him because of the people who quit.. so I'm just stuck. I know they need me but I really need to study. I feel so guilty.
