Should You Decide a Career Path Based on What You Want or What Your Better Suited For?

I have been thinking of trying to become a Police Officer or an EMT/Paramedic in the not so distant future, as I'm really not interested in many other jobs, and want to make a difference in the life's of others in a hands on way.

I more strongly want to be a Police Officer, but I don't think I have many qualities that would associate me with it. I also like the idea of an EMT, but I've always been more afraid of the medical side of things, but I'd be willing to put that aside if I'm not cut out for police work.

The purpose of this post is, is it better to go with a job that resonates with your beliefs, or pick a job that you don't enjoy as much, but you are better at doing it?

I don't see myself as the kind of the guy that could taze/shoot someone, or get aggressive with them if they are resisting arrest, as I usually have a calm demeanor, and care about the health of others more than myself. But, I feel like being a police goes more with my beliefs compared to an EMT, but personally I feel like being an EMT would be better long term for me, even if it means going past my comfort zones.

What do you guys think, do you side with a job that fits your beliefs, just any job in general, or do you side with a job you can do well? Thanks!
