I am applying for a job where they will follow up with my last two jobs to ask if I am eligible for rehire. A few years ago, I was going through some family problems and asked for some time off work. My then boss agreed and said she would send me FMLA papers. After 2 weeks, I received papers saying I was terminated for abandonment of my position. I called my boss and she said they sent out FMLA paperwork but it was never returned. To this day I don’t know if they sent it out and I just didn’t receive it or if they never sent it out to begin with. In hindsight, I should’ve followed up after week one, which I didn’t.
For my situation, I am pretty sure I am in their system as abandoning my job and not eligible for rehire. How can I word it on my application about the reason why I left but will leave me with some room to explain it in case they ask me in the interview?
