Hi all,
I recently left a work experience because of a toxic work environment. I tried to make it work by doing as told but I found even when I did everything, it either wasn’t good enough or I forgot to mind read exactly what my superiors wanted.
I’m now going on job interviews and this question has come up. I didn’t exactly say “toxic work environment” but I’m worried my beating around the bush will come off as I’m hiding something - even though I can get a professional reference to speak on my work performance.
I don’t mind being honest - trusting that future employers understand that these things happen - while being respectful.
I would like help answering this question during interviews. Please and thank you.

If you left due to a hostile work environment, should you be honest about it to the next employer?
