I work security at a very popular marina. It is a mix of public restaurants and businesses as well as businesses that are only open to people with a boat on the grounds (either in the water or in dry storage). Boaters are allowed on their vessels any time they please, so we can still have a large amount of people on the property, even after everything closes. Right now, security guards report to the general office manager, but the company wants to create a security supervisor/head of security position, and they want me to assume that position.
The responsibilities would be staffing/scheduling the security shifts, hiring and training new guards, going through all incident reports (guards have to write a report any time the police or fire departments are called, suspicious or illegal activity is reported by customers or any time they ask someone to leave the property), taking the lead on investigations, drafting procedures to respond to certain situations, and more.
I draw issue with this because they want me to stay at the same entry security salary of $15/hour. There is so much additional responsibility with this position that right off the bat, I will be getting nearly 20 additional hours/week. I feel that that alone proves that there is enough added responsibility to justify a raise. The boss was very adamant about the salary staying the same. If I turn down the promotion, I'm afraid that they might just get rid of me altogether. What should I do?
