Hey y’all. I’m 22, a junior in college (can finish remotely) and I am in Florida! I am wanting to move to NYC (lived there a bit before pandemic but came back to Florida for my ex partner’s work and became sort of stuck here).
I am pursuing a psychology degree with concentration in research design / analysis. Interested in doing a masters as well. I really would love to work in Therapy, but I also have a desire to explore other fields as well, which I mention below in my job searching.
I have my own online resale shop and I am working at a marketing company as an independent contractor / assistant sort of set up where I manage their email broadcasting. It’s based in NYC, I do it remotely. It’s easy, I can set my own hours. But at times it can be a bit numbing since a lot of it requires data entry. I would love to take on more, but they really just want me to focus on this project for now.
Since Im independent with work, I make about $2200-$3000 a month. Rarely at times less, sometimes more but my online shop is usually stable. I just get freaked out that I will not be stable enough and this is why I’m searching for a job to add on.
I’m looking for paid internships, or entry level roles in HR/PR/Marketing. I have only gotten slight action from more sales-y positions, and I really don’t want to do the cold-calling things. But I have no idea how to navigate this. I sort of need to move out and can’t drive, so the city seemed most logical since I know what to expect. Do I forget these more office- driven jobs and just try and search for lower qualification jobs such as retail / hospitality positions? I have experience in working in clothing shops but I just don’t know how to move forward with this.
I’m just very stressed about the amount of rejection/ silence. Also sorry if this is not the best place to ask on this!
