I know there are much, much worst situations to be in. I know I'm lucky to be employed while there are so many others out there who are struggling, so I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way...
But I hate my job, and I'm stuck in it. Its been a total of 6 years now. It was great the first two, then management changed and it has been awful since. The directions is awful, management's understanding of what we do is awful. It is not fufilling at all. I can feel my skills declining day by day over the last three years.
I have tried, so, so hard to move on. But I just can't seem to be able to. I've been on at least 10 interviews internally and nothing has worked out. The latest rejection coming today. I have applied to at least 50 external jobs. What adds to the difficulty is that I think my salary is on the high side for what I do right now. Add in that it is complete chaos at work - and its hard for me to interview well. I have a tough time describing what I do and accomplishments. In addition, I have a pension which not many companies have right now. I think I could get a job that pays 20-40% less a year. It would be enough to live on without a problem, but it is a lot of money to give up.
I guess I'm not sure how to proceed. It's crossed my mind to take a big pay cut, just quit outright, go back to grad school. But I just can't seem to pull the trigger on anything. Any thoughts? Any feedback would be appreciated.
