Like the title says, I recently started a new job but just received an offer from a different company this week.
Just for a little back story, at the end of 2019 I left a job due to health reasons. I started a different job in February 2020. It came apparent to me that this job was not going to be long term (very disorganized company with little benefits and no leadership from management). I told myself that I need to stay at this job for 18 months as to not raise any red flags on my resume but I decided I had had enough. I started reaching out to some of my contacts before the holidays but nothing came to fruition.
Fast forward to February 2021 and I apply to a job that promptly hires me and pays me top money for the position. No joke, on my third day of the job one of my old contacts reaches out to me offering me a position at a different company. They sent me an offer letter last week and I spoke to my contact today...not an interview but more of an open conversation.
My current company has given me a company car to use due to regional traveling but the potential new company will not have that (BUT their office is only 20 minutes away). Insurance will be approx. $80 more expensive a month at the new company. Hours at the new company will be 8-10 hours less than my current job. Both have 401ks but I’m not eligible for on at my current job until after a year and I will be eligible for one at the new job after 90 days. But here’s the kicker - the new job is $10,000 less than my current job. My contact and I had a honest conversation about this large difference and he is going to talk with his boss and get back to me tomorrow with the very best they can do for me. They do have a bonus system so while I feel like they may not be able to make my salary close to what I’m getting currently, they will compensate me the rest through an end of the year bonus.
I guess I’m in shock since I’ve never been in this position before and don’t know what to do! Unfortunately the only thing I know I can do is wait until my contact gets back to me with a new figure tomorrow.
This would be a change in industry for me, which makes me nervous but I’m excited for a change. I also know I will be burning a bridge with my current job...which makes me sick to my stomach.
I know the details I have given are vague but I was wondering if anyone else in this position has any advice to share!!!
