Should I deny my offer

So I just got an offer recently for a student assistant role at X school.

I have yet to answer back on their background check and that is because I added on my resume that I worked at a sporting goods store for two months (I didn’t). I told them that the short stint was due to me leaving because of COVID concerns in early 2020.

I just wanted to add something to my resume as an unexperienced college student that couldn’t even land an interview, but now I’m realizing how stupid that was. Should I just tell them I can’t accept and just move on? (before they find out from the background check)

They really liked me during the interview process and I seemed to hit the nail on all their behavior questions. I have until Friday to answer.
