Job switch

Hi all. Little bit of background. Currently in a contract position ending at the end of August. My boss has stressed that they are working to keep me there full time permanent, I ask about this on a weekly basis and they don’t seem to concerned since they have until the end of August. I got a job offer at the competitor, making more, and full time permanent. I want to approach my boss by saying I have a job offer, but I’d rather stay on his team, and use it as a tactic for them to speed up the process of getting me permanent. If he says no, I’ll take this job offer, or he’ll get me a permanent position.

What are everyone’s thoughts on this?
