Is this normal?

So for 2 of the companies that gave me the initial phone call interview, I was able to go through the last stage of interview for both of them (3 interviews each). I was wondering if this is common practice, for them to go to the last stage with a handful number of candidates. Is this true?

It’s an internship position and one of them did tell me that they decided to go with someone else.
