Is it okay to tell your boss that you want to resign because you're not good at it and you're just not the right fit?

I have had this job for about a year now. I am not doing well at it. And I think I've come to the conclusion that I just don't have the right ability for this job. I think I've done enough damage and I feel ashamed of my incapability. Is it okay to just be honest and say that I don't think I'm the right fit for the job?
