Blogging for a Business

Forgive me if I have the wrong flair here. It's a little hard to choose.

I have generally been teaching as an adjunct or tutoring college students part-time, and I love what I do. However, it's a hard area to get full-time work in, and I started browsing Indeed and ZipRecruiter again. I saw a position for a blogger for what I can best describe as an advertising company nearby. I have seen a few of these come and go, but I was curious if anyone with an English degree had ever gone into a job like that before. What is typically required other than writing proficiency? I'm asking so I can work on becoming proficient in areas that I can if need be.
