Is it a bad idea to graduate in December rather than normally (May, June) for job searching?

Just wondering if one is generally worse off graduating in December (one semester early) instead of next May. Is it generally harder to find a job in December as compared to in May, or is it very much a case-by-case situation? (Note: I am not in such a situation, I was just curious to hear peoples' thoughts on this). [US market]

Also, would you have to explain a potential gap in your resume for many interviews to come? (for example, you graduate in December and start working next June, so there's 6 months of white space.) Would you have to keep explaining this for your next 2-3 jobs or however long, or would this raise any red flags with recruiters?
