I got fired for doing what my trainer does. Tell my why I’m better off without them, cuz I’m a sad mess

Hey all, 24 F and just got fired for the first time. I was at my last job for 1.5 years and never saw this coming. I’m so upset and can’t stop crying. I was hired for a MA position at a Derm clinic. I was really looking forward to this job. The first two weeks I was absolutely miserable, they weren’t training me at all and had me just sitting in in different departments, like billing and scheduling and watching them for the whole day. Eventually they had me follow around another MA and I did as she showed me. I helped her chart and room patients. She would also open up random charts and read through them when there was nothing going on, as there was a strict policy to not use our phones. Well, one day she disappeared on me for 45 minutes when she was supposed to be training me. I stared at the wall for 20 mins and then I opened up a random chart and read through it just to learn like she did. The next week I was called into the office and was told I violated HIPAA and was being terminated. I genuinely had no clue, and apologized letting them know it was a misunderstanding. This is my first healthcare job and I really didn’t know that wasn’t allowed. Seeing people around me do it, I thought it was acceptable. What I can’t get over is how they had me following the trainer, who was doing the same thing and her not getting in trouble as well? I’m so upset, this is my first time getting fired from a job. Last week was the first time I was actually on the floor and doing things I was hired to do. I was so happy I had stuck around because I really was tempted to quit earlier because of the poor training. A couple of the coworkers mentioned to me during my second week in that I have gotten a bad training and they felt bad for me. They didn’t have any of the other new hires sit in different departments and gave them people that had been around longer. I feel like I was set up to fail. They gave me the worst trainer and now I have nothing going for me.
