How to request a job raise

Hello, so my manager recently got a new position in the company and advised I would be taking over most of her duties except I wouldn’t be managing anyone else (she managed 4 others)... we all started getting managed by a different manager and that manager actually put in her resignation and this week is her last week.

Now, would it make sense for me to ask for a raise since I got more duties, except managing others?

They’re only hiring for one manager that is leaving and not my initial manager. So when I joined they’re were two managers but my manager held dual-positions.

Right now they’re hiring for the one manager that just left but I don’t want to apply for that position as I don’t know much about their duties. I would like to be my old bosses replacement though even though there not hiring for it.

The thing is now that both managers have moved on... the head director of the department is in charge and he is located a few states away (working from home). Now I know he must have a busy schedule how would I ask for a raise through email, would I try and setup a meeting or what?

Btw I’ve only been with the company for 6 months now but I am willing to manage others if needed and put in the hours to learn and develop. I’m very hard working and determined but is that enough?
