February 2020 Contracted COVID-19 from either a customer or colleague at work, ended up bed-bound for 11 days with a likely chance of not surviving. Thankfully, I pulled through.
March 2020 With lockdown suddenly in effect, my employer closed 531 stores, making myself and 2,000~ colleagues unemployed. Apparently they had it planned for October but pushed it up due to the pandemic. They gave us 1 month furlough (rather than the 7 months they would have based on their original plan), and got rid of me/us. Scummy but from a business perspective, it makes sense.
April 2020 I was diagnosed with OCD again. I’ve suffered from it all my life but this is the worst I’ve had it. It’s still here now and is a real debilitating illness to be living with, especially alone.
June 2020 My grandad was diagnosed with cancer. He has less than 6 years to live.
Now, it’s 2021. Being alone, without a job, with financial struggles, mental health struggles and an ill grandfather has been tough. But I’m at a stage where I have a high chance of being accepted into a degree-apprenticeship within a retail giant for a diploma in Retail Management and a degree in Business Management (specialising in Marketing), alongside working the ranks in store (starting with Deputy Store Manager) and then at Head Office later on. Getting this would give me a career, steady income, the ability to pay for therapy, and to help getting my life going again.
I know this is more of a life story than anything, but this opportunity would really turn things around for me. Wish me luck 🙌🏻
