I didn't post this the day that it happened, but on St. Patty's day last week, I got a phone call with my dream offer! I'm going to be a corporate paralegal for a top Big Law firm.
I applied to 150 jobs over the span of a year and a half, and I was feeling really ashamed of myself because I couldn't will myself to apply to 300 or 500 jobs that I see other Redditors apply to before they got their job offer. From those 150 job applications, I had a total of 21 job interviews, which is a surprisingly high return rate. I think it could be because of the school name that I came from or it could just be that I had really good luck?? I was, however, busy with multiple side gigs, and I probably had a mental block too because of depression.
But I honestly feel that the amount of jobs you apply to doesn't even matter because it's a matter of how you effectively do things. It's more important to network on Linkedin or other channels than slaving away and shooting to get so many hundreds of job applications out to the internet. I also think that sometimes it is just luck. A mutual friend's brother's girlfriend was working at my firm during my recruitment cycle, and she just put in a good word for me and gave me a head's up as to the interview questions. I think that was what pushed me over the edge. So, long story short, the lesson is to just network and keep a circle of friends around you. Also, keep the faith because nothing lasts forever. Unemployment and pain do not last forever. You got this!
