Any current of past activities directors to give me advice?

I’ve always said my dream in life is to someday when I retire plan events and activities at my retirement home. I didn’t know that was an actual job until recently! I just assumed it was a volunteer type position that people did for fun. I’ve looked into it quite a bit now, and know there’s more to it than just the fun stuff. But, it’s still my dream job! So I was wondering if there’s anyone who could give me some advice on what I need to do to make my dream job a reality. I don’t know if finishing a bachelors degree, or trying to find an assistant job in a retirement home would be a better route to take. Or something else I haven’t thought of? Is there a certificate one could earn in the field?

My current career background is all working with children. I have been a professional nanny as well as a household manager over the years. I do actually feel like a lot of things I use in those positions would be useful as an activities director. I have an associates in general studies, so I could return to school. I also ran a party planning company for a few years, so have experience in event planning. Other than that I’ve sat on a board of nannies and helped to plan nanny related events and trainings over the years. I am current in my CPR/first aid training as well.

As I mentioned if anyone has any insight into how I could prepare myself for this career, or make myself stand out to potential employers I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance.
