I want to preface this post by saying that I know "too much work' is defined differently for everyone and I am well aware that others have it worse than me.
I'm a scientist at a successful pharma company and the culture has shifted in my department over the last 2 years as work-life balance has gone out the window. I now work 60 hours weeks on projects I don't care about and I am completely apathetic towards the success/outcome of the company. The hours suck, but the stress of a lot of the situations and deadlines is what really kills me.
I made a serious push late last year when work hours were a bit more normal and got through 2 full interview processes at companies in another scientific industry but ultimately, did not land those jobs. I am currently unable to muster the mental energy or time to make another serious attempt at the job search.
Is it really that terrible to leave my current job in order to have time to pursue other jobs? Based on my minimalist expenses (I almost never shop and cook most of my meals), I could live off savings for the next 3 years (although I'd like to save for early retirement).
