hey y’all!! it’s official, my first ever job offer landed in my inbox this morning after a super nice call from the company president yesterday letting me know it was forthcoming :) it’s all amazing and I will be accepting the job no matter what because so so many doors will open to me with this large media company on my resume, but the benefits aren’t clear in the offer (like there is no mention of 401k despite their website saying they offer it?) and the salary isn’t where I’d like it - or even close to the range I gave when they asked which is whatever.
I want to know what the procedure is for this type of thing. I have no idea where to start and no one in my family works in any type industry where they’ve ever negotiated a job offer, so I don’t have anyone to ask. I’ve been researching up a storm, but hearing advice from actual people seems really helpful after hours of dry articles online. :)
I want to try to get them up a little at least, because where it stands right now, I’d essentially be making as much as a minimum wage worker in my state. Even 5k more per year could be the difference between being able to make ends meet and needing another side job.
Should I accept the initial offer on the contingency of renegotiation in a year or so once I can prove myself? I want more right off the bat, but it being my first job, I understand that I don’t bring much to the negotiation table, so I’m thinking it might be better to wait? But I also don’t want to short myself. ughhhh, I’m so happy, but so confused.
