Is there an official statement needed saying I’ve been laid off, quit, or fired?

I worked at a burger joint for 2 years in high school, senior year the pandemic hit and I was 18 with no job because my parents didn’t want me working. My previous manager removed me off of our scheduling app a few months into the pandemic, when I asked why they said “Well, you haven’t worked” and I said “I understand, but I’m unable to work.” And they said when I come back they would put me back on schedule. Now, there is a new general manager, and when I reached out to her I was told I would need to be “re-hired”. I’m sorry? This isn’t a joke either, this is completely genuine. It’s almost been a year since I’ve worked, and there’s already a new general manager and new people I’ve never met that have taken over, so I’m just unsure of what happened, did I get laid off? Am I still in their system? This is something I could ask them, I understand that, but I feel as though I should’ve been told “Hey, yeah you’re fired” or at least something! Thank you guys!
