Is it okay to explain to your interviewer that you're nervous, and that physical symptoms may become apparent during the process?
Hi all. I have an interview on Thursday and I'm super excited about it, but I have a major problem that's causing me to fear missing the opportunity because of my body's poor response to many situations.
I take medication that helps me to stay awake, and as a result my heart rate is on the higher side. This normally isn't a problem, however I've had interviews in the past where my heart starts beating very fast and very intensely (I already have anxiety so it's just amplifying it), to a point where I have trouble speaking and trying to form my thoughts because the physical symptoms are very uncomfortable. I have been turned down because it sounds like I can't form a complete thought, and it's very frustrating.
I was trying to get an appointment with my psych to try a beta blocker because they tend to help people with that problem, but her next availability isn't until after the interview.
If it is a good idea for me to explain to the interview that I have this issue in unfamiliar situations, how should I tell them without revealing too much information about my health status? I can't not take the medication, because otherwise there is a good chance I will actually fall asleep at the interview.
