How do I deal with a coworker that seem to always comment about what I choose to spend money on in a negative way. For example, anytime someone brings up how housing market has gone up (Canada by the way), this particular coworker seem to find a way to make it about me. He would say something like “he bought a half a million dollar house haha”. I feel like this person sees it as “how come he is able to buy a house like that, we both make the same salary at work and I can’t buy the same house”, but what this person fails to realize is that I am from a double income family, while his wife is a stay home. This same person doesn’t complain or comment about me driving 15 year old Toyota. I usually just laugh off his comment but these comments seem to ring in my ears later.
