got hired and then received an email three minutes later stating they don’t want to move forward with me as a candidate

just wanted to vent and maybe give some advice for a sec — so I went through my first round interview with this company and it went incredibly well. they scheduled a second interview. Not sure what happened on the second interview, but from minute 1 this guy seemed incredibly uninterested. He’d mute his mic whenever I spoke and stare off to the side instead of even looking directly at me. After finishing answering each question to an extent I felt was complete, he’d wait like 5 seconds before unmuting his mic and his responses were simple “ok”. Absolutely zero follow-up questions. I wasn’t even able to talk about how my experience relates to the position — he tried ending the interview about 12 minutes in. I asked some questions I had prepared which extended it to 17 minutes — but got incredibly lacking answers. It sounded like he couldn’t even pretend to put in the effort to answer them.!I understood what was happening to me at the time and that I seem to have just ran into an asshole.

I had to reach out and ask if they’re interested in a second interview, and they apparently had me scheduled in for the very next day and forgot to send me the Google meets link!

I sent them an email thanking them for the interview and basically got a response somewhere along the lines of “understood thanks - if things end up working out someone will contact you. Take care.”

Then the following day I received an email stating I was hired. Then three minutes later I received an email stating they didn’t mean to send that and that I am in fact, not hired.

I went on to do my second/third interviews back to back with another company the day after and I received an offer.

My takeaways from this is whatever interviewer you get, and whatever mood they’re in — it’s a fucking dice roll. Sometimes shit isn’t your fault. I had spent one week straight doing research for the interview and they didn’t even ask me anything past “why do you want to work for us?” And “what was your favorite job?” So.. shit happens, don’t let it affect YOUR confidence, and just move on... learned that for the first time at a professional level today..
