I told my manager I wanted to quit my job last week to take some time off and focus on school, but having second thoughts.
My situation: -24 years old, first full-time job out of school that pays me 105K/year. Been at this job for 2.5 years. -40K in savings, 18k in Roth IRA, 5k in stock -My partner supports me in my decision and makes enough money to pay the bills for both of us. -My job allows me to work remotely / can be done remotely -I've been getting a master's degree part-time for the past year
Why I want to quit: -I dated a coworker who is now my ex and we work on the same team -The workload feels too much to balance with school. I've even been taking on additional responsibilities above my title for the past year, performing at the same level as my senior level peers, but my manager rejected me when I asked for a raise. -I feel like I can't take time off, feel pressured to hit deadlines all the time -Poor management/lack of prioritization and organization
Why I might want to stay: -The security of having a paycheck, feeling fortunate to have a job during the pandemic -Make more money to pay for school -Health insurance - Have access to all my work in case I need to share work samples in future interviews
I've thought this out for a while. If I quit, my plan would be to take a few weeks of rest and apply to jobs while I focus on my 2 classes this semester. I anticipate taking up to 6 months to find a new job, but what if it takes longer? My manager wants me to stay, supported me in my decision, and asked if there was anything they could do to change my mind. I said no, but I keep cycling between "should I stay or should I go". At this point my last day would be March 1st so if I want to, I still have time to change my mind.
