Threatened to let me go because I wanted to change my shift back, was I in the wrong? among other issues as well?

So I just started school and I'm in CS. I need the hours to study and hurriedly took the night position. I have my position switched from 9 - 5 and with how I am, how my professors are, they wouldn't be likely want to work with me after school hours. I will need all the studying I can get with this major and really wanted to be in the same hours that my professors would be available on without having to take off a day or two from work with no pay.

What they consider night position is 10 am to 7pm (or in my case 9 am to 6pm since I'm an hour behind), which doesn't seem like night at all because I'd be working in the morning till night . I have a friend who works night shift and he works from 4 pm till 10pm.

My job is an outbound calling place but we just schedule appointments. I didn't realize that their night shift meant 10 am to 7 pm. This is my first customer service job, apart from retail.

So as I'm on the phone with her, I tell her that me and my onboarding supervisor came to the conclusion that I couldn't work from the hours expected because I just need to get time in for school. This lady calls me and tells me that if the shift I left from isn't available, and I can't work the shift I just switched from then she'll have to let me go. She said it in a quite forceful tone too. In addition, the manager added that, "it isn't their job to make sure there's a schedule put in for you that accommodates your outside responsibilities " , "I'm just going to be blunt with you, it isn't our job to accommodate you. This company is paying for a job to be completed, for services", because they had told me the working hours. While this may be true, that just didn't settle well with me either.

I should note that I have JUST made this switch for schedule changed last week. It wasn't within a months length of time either. So, I wouldn't have thought they put someone in that shift so fast.

I also have to add that this position is a temp agency and the company we're working for is a larger known company. Every employer who works at the current company now took at least 3 or 2 years to get hired from the temp agency. While we do have benefits, which I appreciate, I just didn't like that conversation. I understand telling someone what they agreed to do along with guidelines but I'm not sure if I took that conversation too close to heart or not.

Was it crazy to ask for my shift back or ....?

Then the initial issue happened: clocking in and out. I had been clocking in and out properly (or so I thought). I didn't receive a pay this Friday and didn't know what the hell happened. I emailed my manager and she didn't get back with me until that afternoon with the issue. Turns out the payroll lady was manually clocking me in, which gave me the assumption that the other times I had clocked in were done correctly on my own. I was then asking about labor laws because I didn't want to work without receiving a paycheck. I contacted my onboarding supervisor about it, the manager for the main company, as well as the lady I'm speaking about (my supervisor) to make sure we were on the same bases. She sounded offended that I asked about it and said that I couldn't consider this a labor law issue because it was just about clocking in. Though when I explained this issue to others on this board and other places, they seemed to have agreed- don't work until you receive the pay from last week, otherwise it could be considered a labor issue.

I'm thinking about keeping the shift and then looking for other places to work while I'm here. As much as it's cushiony, I don't like the tone behind it. During this conversation, it felt like a strong arming predicament.
