References Question

I recently made it to the final stages of the hiring process at my dream job. They asked for references made up of previous co workers and supervisors. This might sound stupid, but does that include people from my current job. I have been using current co workers and supervisors the last couple times I’ve applied but never thought the potential employer would care if they were current or previous. Thanks
