Will try to be as short as possible.
I’m a new grad with my bachelors. I know a guy who knows the CEO of a software company in my area. Company is relatively small with 80 employees, but much to read about in google and stocks looking good. The CEO texts me to meet with one of his managers for a in person chat. Note: I’ve never worked at anywhere with a start up culture before. The company has good stocks standing and has been added to major companies as a vendor.
The manager asks what I’m looking to do, and doesn’t specify the role I would be doing (like I wouldn’t apply to a job portal for analyst or anything). He tells me what they do and I thought it was interesting. He tells me to sit in for a meeting a few days later to confirm if I think I would be a good fit with them, and says the ball is in my court.
I follow up to update on said meeting, he says it’s been pushed back the following week. I follow up again to ask for an update, and he said it’ll definitely happen that week. I follow up end of the week, he says probably Monday. I follow up Monday (today) and he apologizes as the other party is being difficult on the date and we will sit in another project instead.
At this point, I’m frustrated to always be the first to initiate the follow ups and ask if there’s anything I can view in person. He says he will introduce me to a developer. Puts me in a group chat with that developer. The developer right away sets up a meeting for today at 4:00...
I had contacted the developer an hour for meeting details and had no reply. It’s been 30 mins since the meeting time, I double texted, with no reply. He finally calls me and tells me to send my resume, and now we will reschedule for tomorrow. Am I just an eager new grad to let all of this slide? I felt really excited but dumb that some of these people couldn’t bother to message me with any updates. Is this normal for start up culture?
