I'll try to keep this brief.
I work in an understaffed digital art department of a graphics production/printing company. We have various departments from highly-compensated sales staff, to underpaid rank-and-file like myself, to floor production employees hired through a temp employment service. While sales see very high commission compensation, many other employees, such as vinyl cutters, make less than $10/hr through a temp employment agency. I make $14.50/hr.
I was asked to use a temp employment agency when I was offered the job but refused. After all, I found this job myself and I was qualified. What would the temp employment agency even be doing for me? I pushed to be hired directly and they gave in. I was hired fully by the company. I paid off, too. I am a great employee with high output. I was a good hire like I promised. My department requires extensive Creative Suite knowledge, as well as print production skills. In short, my job takes some specialized skills and training in the field. I am perplexed as to why they use a temp agency.
I was told today that while we are looking for another front end digital art employee, they will be using a temp service. Why would my employer be so adamant about this? Is this a cost-cutting measure?
I feel like my employer is choosing cost over quality for my department. I want to push my employer to hire qualified, skilled, and long-term teammates. We had a temp in our office before. She stopped giving a shit and quit. Her pay was laughably low and they refused a raise after two years as a temp. We have tried interns which failed. I just want a quality teammate to help me. I fear my employer doesn't have that same goal.
Can someone please advise?
