I am home from college for the holidays and asked my boss from my summer job at a dog boarding/daycare facility if I could be put back on the schedule for 25-30 hours. I have gotten that amount of hours for the past couple of weeks since I have been back. However, the week of Christmas (next week), they just scheduled me 48 hours (which is more than the usual full time employees are working). I knew I would have to work Christmas day because I needed New Years day off, but I wasn't expecting those other extra shifts. I typically haven't been working Thursdays, which Christmas eve falls on, and moved family Christmas plans to that day so I could work Christmas but now I have a shift Christmas eve too. I don't know what to do because they always emphasize that once the schedule is made, the shifts are my responsibility. No one is going to take it though if I tried to get it covered. They are scheduling everyone too much that week because they are anticipating more business and no one wants to work Christmas eve. Also, I have been needing to ask off 6 days for a trip in January and I'm afraid that is going to get denied if I'm pushy about this. Any advice? I'm really mad right now. I'm literally a college student home to spend time with my family for the holidays, not work full time.
