I’m speaking to a third-party recruiter who’s working with a company, hiring for them. I’ve gotten a verbal offer so far for a position at the company. I’ve been interviewing for this since late September.
I mentioned to the recruiter a week or so ago that I might take a trip back home overseas soon to visit my parents. She said she can check with the VP about that. Recruiter and I caught up the next day and she gave me the OK-from the VP to travel, since the start date for the job can be negotiated and we can delay all the background checks/drug screenings until after I return.
After our phone call; I thought it over and had a quick chat with family members. I realised travelling abroad right now is risky and a pain for various reasons (lots of layovers which = money) In addition to the financial factor of travelling before getting a stable, written offer for the job and without a lot of money. I emailed the recruiter 15 minutes after our phone call and informed her I wouldn’t be travelling anymore, and that I don’t thong it’s the right time until things finalise with the new job.
Did I make a mistake by suggesting travel then backtracking? Especially since the recruiter aprru as spoke to the VP about it. Don’t want her to look bad. Hoping I’m overthinking this and it wouldn’t hurt my candidacy. TIA for any help.
