Asked for a raise and instead got a performance improvement plan

I've been at this company for about 3 years now doing all their graphic design, inventory management, ecommerce listings, a lot of misc. tasks along with a bunch of reports. I feel like through my graphics I've brought a ton of sales in that otherwise wouldn't have happened. Recently, I asked for a raise since I've been only getting better at the product photography, I use my own gear too and upgrade all the time. Long story short, I didn't get the raise.. after 2 years of no raise.

This is a job with no benefits since it's a small company. I get $20 an hour which is more than any other job I've had but still feel like I should get a raise since cost of living increases every year.. at least something. The shocker is not long after this I got a performance improvement plan. They said I need to get more work done but I don't think they realize just how much time it takes to edit pictures.. Also that I haven't been on time to work but the thing is, I'm salary. I can't always leave at 5 or show up everyday at 8, most of the people in the office don't even show up on time!

I'm not sure what to do next. I don't think I can find another job at my current rate in this economy. I thought about trying to run my own business taking photos but that hasn't taken off to where I'd feel comfortable just yet. Any advise?
