I do part time work at a deli in a grocery store. They hire lots of high schoolers and college students (like me). I originally applied to be stock, but they told me they didn't need stock and needed a deli worker, so that's where I was put. It's a fine job, nothing special. The only problem is I can't socialize with anyone my age.
Out of all of the employees in the store ages 16-22/23, I am the ONLY one who is not working as part of stock, cashiering, or customer service. Everyone who works in the deli besides me is 60+ years old, save for the supervisor who is in their late 40's. I believe this is probably the case with the pharmacy as well, but it's everyone 40+ instead. As a deli worker I'm not allowed to leave the deli counter except to take temperature readings in the front cases and on the side, and for breaks.
Because of this, I'm stuck with one or maybe two other people for hours on end. I find it hard to relate with them because they're so much older. And while I work, I see the other workers my age who walk by or straighten up shelves in front of the counter, and often they're having casual conversations with one another, which I can't do because none of the people I work with share any common interests. Most conversations are just work related and boring, usually ending after a couple minutes, if even that.
I can't do much during breaks either. If someone is sitting down in the break room I might talk to them, but usually people are too focused on eating (you only get 15 minutes after all). I'm unable to make any friends there whatsoever and I really wish I could get to know people who were my age.
