I took a lateral job from being in the field to being at a desk. I was told I'd get a raise but they reneged on that. It was to offset my mileage but unfortunately it has caused me to hemorrhage money when my budget hasn't changed. I asked for the raise promised to at least make the same rate as others in this position and was told it's not happening. So I'm making just shy of 17/hr in an IT position with two degrees. I can't move and there are no other opportunities I know of. I think I'm being underpaid but no one will tell me what they are making and I can't go back to my old post because it's been eliminated. For the first time in years I'm considering getting a second job but that requires me to try to get off of being on call. I'm just looking for advice. I'm 39, and scared I might have to sell the house my wife and I got 8 years ago and find somewhere cheaper all because I can't cut any more from the budget. It's not like it's an expensive home. 70k mortgage.
