I was offered a job at a local private school - hooray! Currently I work in NYC and have a $115k salary. It's ok but I hate the commute and I hate the hours. I am always thrown projects last minute and having to work 12 hrs days. All these things are factors I have zero control over. My spouse and I have two small kids. My spouse has to take on most of the responsibilities, despite the fact that they work FT too, due to the strenuous hours. My spouse makes six-figures as well and has job stability. We do not own our home but stand to inherit it as well as other property. Our "rent" is very little. I am almost done with paying student loans and car note. I want this job, it's in a field I love and a stone's throw away from home - I could walk to work! It's also a private school my kids could attend if accepted. BUT, the starting salary is $85k with good benefits. Thoughts?
Edit FYI: my current job has no stability. Many layoffs have happened as of late. Although I believe my job is safe, my salary could be on the chopping block. Or worse, I could lose a direct report making my scope of work that much more unbearable.
