Should I quit my job?

I did something stupid a week or two ago at work, which led to the manager writing down my side of things, and then sending that to HR. They're supposed to inform me tomorrow of HR's response to this. The managers say this will just be on my record, and that there's a process in place for firing people, and not to worry, but of course they'd say that. If I'm fired, I imagine it would be for cause - is it better to quit beforehand?
