Hi, i’m 16 and a hostess at a restaurant. There is a second hostess (we’ll call her M) who is 19. There have been some issues that have gotten in the way of us doing our job properly.
She is rude to customers, on her phone all the time in front of customers (talking to friends/making tik toks), and walks away while i’m actively trying to train her. I’ve worked there for 6 and a half months and she has worked there for 3 weeks.
One of the biggest issues is the to-go orders. The hostesses take to go orders, and therefor get tips for it. When i was trained, i only did to go orders on weekdays, because it wasn’t nearly as busy as Friday-Sunday. M has an issue with this. I get where she’s coming from so i tried to compromise and let her do walk-in orders and i’ll take orders over the phone, which still, apparently, isn’t enough for her. On Sunday it all came to a head when she used our second work phone to interrupt a phone call i had with a customer, so that she could take their order and put it in. Not only is that unprofessional, but it’s just straight up disrespectful to me.
Her unprofessionalism is getting in the way of being able to do her job as a hostess correctly. I think she’d do better as a server where she doesn’t have to cooperate with another person. (She was training to be a server, but we had a change in management, so i guess she isn’t anymore.)
What would be the best way to bring this up to my manager without seeming like i’m rude or whining about it? I genuinely just want to find a solution to make this job easier for both of us, i don’t want her to be fired or anything.
