Can I mention / ask for a job?

I'm an engineer / data analyst and I'm being made redundant. Completely out of the blue a product range is cancelled and with it mass redundancies.

By chance I've been involved in a project working for another department. I work with the team members very regularly but only spoke to the manager once.

Project has fantastic feedback and they're wanting to expand it next year. They live in another country so all my work has been remote. Is it acceptable for me to, and how would I go about mentioning if a job came up to consider me?

I've only spoke to the manager once but great relationships with the team.
