Long story short is that I have struggled to find a job since graduating as a result of the pandemic. After finding nothing, I settled for a job I found through a temp agency working in a packaging distribution center for low pay. The company I have been working at liked me enough to offer to buy me out of my contract with the temp agency to make me a full time employee of their own. The problem is, it’s still less than ideal pay and has nothing to do with my background. I honestly don’t mind the work and am generally happy with it for now, but I just know it isn’t going to lead to a permanent career, it was simply the only opportunity I had and I didn’t want to let it pass.
While It’s only been a few weeks working as a full time employee of the company, I haven’t stopped looking at jobs better suited for my background. I want to start applying, but I also feel like I owe my current company at least a few months of work since they paid for me to be a full time employees of theirs, and I don’t want to screw them over and get up and leave ASAP. So, is it a waste of time to apply to jobs now and ask for a start date a few months from now? How long do you suggest I should stay at this company at a minimum without looking like a jerk for walking a way after the favor they did for me? Any advice helps, thanks!
