Background check

I started my background checking after accepting an offer since Monday. I emailed from their website (cooperate screening) of the status and they are waiting for the verification from my old institute that I ended for my bachelors.

Is the pending verification from my old institute based on whether I attended there or to verify that I completed my bachelors.

This is taking quite awhile and I am wondering what is taking so long. Any idea? I usually don't mind the wait, but I am really excited to start my new job.
